These chips plug into the car's ECU computer to change the cars performance and claim that it will not harm the ECU ot the car in any way.

I have used these many times, always with good results.  The biggest problem with running an upgraded chip tho, is you will have to run premium fuel.  This is because one of the things the performance chip will change will be the ignition timing.  The timing will be a bit more "retarded" (or earlier before top dead center) which will create more power, but also makes the engine more likely to "knock" - a higher octane fuel will help prevent that knocking.

If your ECU has a separate EPROM, then changing the chip is fairly simple. If not then it has to be modified. I have put chips in two of my cars and had differing results. The first was a '94 Honda Del Sol VTEC. The results were noticeable but not impressive, which I think would be true for all non-turbo engines. The latest was my '94 Eclipse GST which I got from DSM chips. Chipping a turbo is essential to get top performance.

The chips change the timing and fuel maps for maximum performance. For a non-turbo there is only so much that can be done. For a turbo the potential is as big as the turbo. So far the most I have heard of being produced from a 4 cylinder 2.0L engine is 1000HP. This is impossible out of a non-turbo 2.0L, but search YouTube for Brent Ra and see a 4G63 2.0L turbo that does just that!
