Good car to buy?
« on: January 13, 2008, 08:56:13 AM »
I'm looking for a good new/used car under $20,000, sports type model. Nice and fast, I was looking at the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, I love it.. but it's just out of my price range. I'd like a fast car that I can customize. I'm big into tuning.(CA intake, taillight kits, etc).

I've looked at the 2k7 Rabbit, but it's just not fast enough for me, and it's too hard to customize.

Thanks for the suggestions in-advance.

I'm in favor of Subarus.  You can pick up a 2004-2005 Subaru WRX (manual only please) for between 12K-16K  depending on condition or previous mods.  It has a smaller engine than the STI, but there are tons of mods for its boxer 2.0L engine.

If you can drive a stick then I would suggest trying to find a Neon SRT4. New in 2004 they sold for $20k and obviously if you buy used it will be less.

230 BHP stock and LOADS of mods.

My friend has his up to 380WHP (it's just silly).

Coming around the corner somewhere is supposed to be the Caliber SRT4 w/ about 300HP stock.

I've been a Dodge fan for years and they never cease to always have something that just doesn't sound right -- my favorite still would be the 86 GLHS (Dodge Omni bought and modded by Carroll Shelby, only 500 made).

Check out the SRT4s ... you should be pretty surprised by the fun they can be.
