Why is car shaking in park or while on brake?
« on: October 26, 2007, 04:08:13 AM »
the odometer reads 159835. Its a mitsubishi eclipse 2003. I have never gotten a tune up. It only shakes randomly while i am at a stop sign or red light. I noticed the steering wheel and dash board shaking and i can hear it. You can hear it on the outside when this happens too. Its does not make a back fire noise and I just got a oil change. I am about to get rid of it in a couple of months but i do not want it to brake down on me before that. Its only does it while in drive, if i put it in park it does not do it.

Try adding the three types of STP gasoline additives to a tank of gas. Dry gas, injector cleaner and one other one. Gasoline in the winter can get water from condensation in it.

A tune up will be a good place to start. There are many things that can cause this. One is worn ignition parts like spark plugs and another is low compression. It can also be a bad torque converter.

A tune-up is probably more than in order. The oil change has nothing to do with it. You can put a bottle of gas treatment with your next gas fill-up, as it is possibly a clogged fuel injector. If you sell it outright, you will need to fix it. If you trade-in, it will be ok.

Good luck, and don't get stranded so some kook harms you!

It's misfiring. You've got a bad cylinder or a bad spark plug.

I know I'm right on this one. My ex had the same car, same experience. New spark plugs fixed it. I also intalled a new fuel filter. Smooth, smooth, afterwards.

This is normal, its not bad, its just un even combustion every once in a while that is more noticable because the engine is under load spinning the torque converter, which is why when your in park (no load on the engine) you don't realize it.  It could be caused by poor fuel quality, (maybe try an additive once something that says it will stick to water) or spark plugs.  It may be time for a tune up!

the engine is most likely misfiring due to bad plugs since you havent gotten a tune up

159835, that is a lot of miles for a 4 year old car are you sure is that the right amount?  If that is the case, that car was driven the piss out of it !

Anyway, Tune Up is an old term and today's cars does not need that.  The computer does the Tune Up for you more than 10 times a second.  Now, what you need is maintenance.  Changing plugs and wires is not a Tune Up, you are not Tunning anything.  But is a buzz word for performing a higher maintenance beside changing oil.

When you take it for that, ask, what did they Tuned?   I bet they will give you a check list with some items they checked, add some fluids and changed some.  But no adjustments or tunning.  Even if it placed on a Computer to check it, no tunning has been performed, just checking the sensors and error codes.  And again, no tunning has been performed...

Take it to a really good shop for some Maintenance / Service.

Good luck hon ! :-)
