Is it worth trading in or should I just scrap it?
« on: October 22, 2007, 01:44:13 PM »
I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant ES, which was purchased in June '06. The car was bought from a man from NY. There is extensive rust damage to the car, but none on the exterior strangely. The guy said the rust is due to the salt/snow. The interior had been rebuilt after a fire started by a cigarette? (I really think the car suffered through Hurricane Katrina.) I was planning a roadtrip to Boston with a couple friends, had my car taken to the shop for a tune-up, and my mechanic, which is a good friend of mine, told me he doesn't think the car will make it past Orlando (I live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida) without having to pay more for repairs than the car is worth. That was March '07, and the car is still running not as well as it used to, though. Aside from that, I've kept the car in good shape.

I'm planning to buy a new car within the next 2 months, and I don't know what to do with this one. Fix it up to sell it/trade it in, or just sell it to a junk yard?

Try to fix it for the least amount of money possible and sell it.  Whether you put it in the newspaper or on eBay, you will still get more out of it then the junk yard.  You would be lucky to get $100 for it at any junk yard.

go to a car lot and pick one out and work up a price you are atisfied with,, then say you know what i want to trade my galant and they may give you 500 off for it,,, if they come back with the same price you know your not dealing with a honest dealer,,,, they do it,,,,

Look for a web site in your area that lets you advertise for free. We have one in my home town. Sell it as is with your price or best offer with recent things you fixed. You might make some kid happy or mabe his first car purchase. Don't put anymore money into car as you probly will not get much for the car.
