So you bought a Work truck to fix up hmm.
1st off stay away from anything that says "We can improve MPG and power" WHY?? Because under state/federal laws these new cars are already burning 99% of the fuel and getting 99% of the power from it.
I build show cars for a living and ive seen 2 exact cars one with stock intake, firing system with a superchip. Dyno'd next to a car with aftermarket "fancy" engine parts and a superchip and they both pulled about the same numbers (Mr. Fancy pulled about more 10 whp"
1st things first..... Scrap that PoS factory suspension.
Ok, now on to the changes
1) Looks : Jack that bitch up about 4 inches, get 22inch rims with low profile offroad side grabbers "They have tread on every single inch of the tire sidewalls and all. very nice. Dont get any bigger then 22 or you will have steering/suspension problems down the road. You could go with big heavy old-school off road tires, but they tear up your suspension, ride super rough, and make alot of noise. Not to mention eat up gas.
2) Change out the exhaust and this is how we do it.
a) Swap out factory filters for K&N (yes they are very expensive but they work so much better then anything else out there. They last for LIFE!
b) 2008 Fx4 5.4 SHOULD have a twin turbo. I dont know what you bought but 9/10 have twin turbo's. Ok so now you want to Upgrade your chips to get the REAL power from it. Also get a Turbo Back Tuner (Replaces the flattened OEM downpipe on your Ford Diesel Truck and steps up to 4" tubing, eliminating the OEM flange. Look for significant gains in all performance categories. Recommended only if you are planning a chip upgrade, intake upgrade or turbo upgrade.)
That should be good for starters. In that alone your lookin at about 7k in parts.
rough breakdown from my shop manuals.
Superchip-- 895.99 (with programing pad)
Turbo Back Tuner-- 1001.93
5-7 suspension lift-- 1330.00
18-20 Inch offroad heavy duty rims-- 2200 (set no tires)
Matching set of sidegrabs about 350-500 each (depends on tread)
