95 Ford F-150?
« on: December 15, 2007, 01:41:07 PM »
My F-150 is acting strange. My trucks acceleration is slugish, it hesiatates. Some times when I press the gas pedal, its like nothing happens, and then all of a sudden it takes off.

I took it to a local Ford Dealership, they did a salt water test and found the spark jumping from the wires, so I payed $370.00 for a tune up and 2 days later it has started all over again.

They also said that I needed a new oxygen sensor, but because they didn't have genuine parts in stock they couldn't offer me a warranty for a after market part.

Does anyone have any ideas, I can't afford them to keep guessing until they get it right. Thanks

Could be fuel filter if not changed in some time or could be fuel pressure regulator. Also may need to check Mass Air flow sensor (MAF). No need to take to a dealer, try a local shop that is AAA rated or that has ASE certification.

You can replace the oxygen sensor yourself.

You can purchase them at any Auto parts store.

You can rent the tool to remove the O2 (oxygen sensor) at Auto zone or Checkers.

Check all vacuum hoses. The truck should have a vacuum schematics. If any of the vacuum hoses show any signs of cracking or wear, replace them.

Remove and replace the fuel filter, air filter, and PCV valve too.

One thing to check that was not mentioned. Check the Catalytic Converter. It might be plugged. With the engine running, have someone rev the engine, and verify good exhaust flow.

Sounds like you should look for a vacumn leak right of the bat.  My 99 was doing the same thing and thowing the bad o2 sensor reading.  Found a couple of rotted vacumn lines and fixed it right up.
