2005 Mustang Tune-Up?
« on: November 22, 2007, 09:21:55 PM »
I just spoke with Ford and they told me it would be about $350 to do the tune-up, which would include a new fuel and air filter and a fuel injector flush.  Is this a good price?  Also, any additional info would be appreciated...

Fuel injector flush is pretty much unecessary.Injectors dont get as dirty as often as some people seem to think. An air filter and fuel filter would probably cost around $40.00 bucks all together if you were to do the work yourself. If you were to get an air and fuel filter change its only about 10-15 minutes worth of work. You could get it done at a reputable mechanic for far less, that is if you dont get the injector flush. The flush isnt a bad idea but its just a waste of money most of the time.So personally I think its kind of a rip off just like the parts prices at Ford but thats what you get when you go to a dealership.

Depends on the tune up...

Spark plugs are a 100,000 mile item

Usually the air filter can be changed by yourself but the fuel fliter I would recommend a pro preferably the dealer as I've had a few of the speedy lubes break the fuel clips that hold the fuel lines on and can cause unsafe conditions.

The fuel injector flush is a question mark.

If you use a high quality gas with detergents then you won't see them get clogged up as using the lowest price gas you can find.

However some places clean the intake at the same time they clean the fuel injectors and is worth it to help with idle quality as well as junk that builds occasionally on the valves

Depending upon what is being changed, It can be a fair price or a hair high one at a dealer. However I find the dealer and some of the chain stores quote the same labor rate for services..go figure
