I've read that Honda is planning to introduce the Civic-type-R here in the US in 2009-10. I think that car looks real cool, a lot better than the current Si. I'm in the market to get sport compact car and am wondering if the type-R is worth the wait for one more year. I've read that the Type-R has abt 20 hp more than the Si and is more race tuned.

Yes you are correct. The Type R is scheduled to appear in U.S dealerships as of 2010.  As of now all we can go off of is the prototype JDM CTR which has a LSD with a k series motor producing 220Hp. Its said that the model will only come in hatchback version but being as this is years away anything could happen.

There are no garrentees!!

they are talking about a hatch but the chances of that is slim being the 2002-05 Si's were hatches and didnt seel as well as they hoped. a big factor in that was the rally inspired shifter.  Sales have shown that the coupes and now sedans are more asthetically(sp?)  pleasing. the fits are selling great because of the 4 door great fuel economy they have. it would be nice to see another performance hatch being a proud owner of the ugly duckling of honda, 03 Si, but dont count on it

wait for the type-r. i was in japan in nov 07, and the 4 door ctr i saw driving down the street [rhd, on the right side of the road...drool...sorry] was absolutely gorgeous. even in comparison to the current factory direct mugen badged civic si here in the states. the type-r is heaven for any honda owner. acord type-r, civic type-r, integra type-r. drool.
