do i have to re-synch carbs after cleaning them?
« on: December 31, 2007, 06:28:25 PM »
i have a 1979 honda cb 750 10th anniversary edition that is not running now. i put in stabil before winter, but i'm thinking it might not have gone into the gas thats held in the carbs/float bowls... i have spark and everything, so im assuming its the gas.

anyhow, i have a manual for it, and i feel comfortable taking apart the carbs to soak them in cleaner to clean all the gunk out, but do i have to synchronize them or adjust them in any way when i put them back? can i just put them in the way i took them out and have that fix everything? sounds too easy. i may take it in anyways for a tune-up, but i figured i could save some money by doing at least that much...

thanks.

re-synch if tuning was disturbed, or appears to be out, o'wise why bother?  if it ain't broke.....

Yes, anytime you disassemble your carburetors, you need to synchronize them when putting them back in service.  Even if you weren't going to take them down for cleaning, it wouldn't hurt to re-synch the carbs anyway, because they do get out of adjustment over time.

Sometimes.

Especially if they were reset while dirty, and then cleaned.

It certainly won't hurt if done correctly.

Yes, by cleaning them each one has let's say different levels of gum which has been removed so once assembled they will slightly be out of sync...
