my car is def due for a tune up its old and has 217 thousand miles on it... when i press the gas it starts to almost sputter i guess. Im not sure how to explane it but it makes the car shake a little but this isnt constant and it doesnt do it as much when the engine is cold from what i have experienced. Anyway it also makes kinda a clunking noise when i turn the wheel as i am driving around a corner. I know for a fact i need new shocks could this noise have anything to do with it ... the mechanic the other day wiggled my front tires and said they were a little wobbley and i would need new wheel barings or something like that soon can anyone give me some advice on this and what all these noises are????

Well the mechanic said he thought it was the axle but he said if it were that the clunking noise would be constant and they dont make the noise all the time only sometimes which is why i ask could this be my bad shocks making the noise...

and i dont neglect my car either i have only had it for 12 thousand miles i bought it when it had 205 thou on it .... and i have done all the routine maintenance its just old is all and needs a little love

I'd start with spark plugs, wires and an air filter. The clunking when you are going around corners are probably your axle shafts

Cap, rotor, wires, plugs, air filter, fuel filter. Do an oil change while at it as it sounds like you neglect your vehicle.

Clunking noise going around corners is usually cv-shafts, but you may have more wrong with your steering and suspension. Ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings.

Have fun.

Well you asked for this, I would as soon as I can, get rid of it and get another car, yours is on it's last leg and no amount of money will make it run right, I'm sure you've gotten your money's worth out of it so it's time to put it too sleep.

To start you off on a tune up. You need spark plugs, spark plug wires,Air filter, oil and oil filter.Theres sensors that are probably needing changed like the oxygen sensor ect. It does sound to me like your axle shaft's.But the noise maybe even a broken spring its hard to tell unless looking at it. Could be strut. The tune up and sensors at 200,000 should help the sputtering. After the tune up run a little higher octane in it should help.It burns better and should help clean out your carb. engine ect. Hope this helps!!!Good luck.

the nosie is probably the shocks and strutts. also sounds like your fuel injectors are clogged if it is sputtering as you say. if so try fuel injector cleaner or you might need to take them off and soak them to clean them out. very easy to do. you need new plugs and wires which also might explain the sputteringyou are feeling. if your plugs or wires are bad i causes the cylinders to missfire or sputter as you put it. look for cracks in your intake manifold hose too. you need new fuel filter, oil filter and change, tranny filter and fluid change, check all of your gaskets. new air filter. the noise when you are turning might be a cv joint or axle. or a tire rod. and if the tires are wobbley like they said then yes your barings are dry and you need to fix it asap because you dont want your tire to fly off while you are driving it.
