going 2 mechanic 2 get a tune up?
« on: December 11, 2007, 12:27:08 PM »
i have a 92 nissan 300zx non turbo. lately it has been making noise when i am idle in reverse and drive. on park and neutral i dont hear anything. i know 4 a fact it is something minor but i want my car 2 run perfect and sound perfect. my friend told me something is just loose and i dont have 2 do anything. i was thinking about just going 2 a shop and telling them 2 tighten all my screws or mayb get a tune up 2 try and fix the sound. any tips or suggestions??

i hear this sound on a lot of older rickety cars that drive by also. and doesnt affect driving at all.

Exhaust rattle maybe... When it's in a gear (drive, reverse, etc) you have a load on it... and it naturally vibrates, and shakes more... When it's in park, or neutral there no load on the engine, and it spins freely.

You could have someone pop it into drive, and start peeking around until you find it... but the majority of the time we get that complaint it is usually an exhaust component... cat, or muffler shields vibrating.... tail pipe tapping, or something to that effect. Good Luck!
